The mammary gland (breast) tissue is a dynamic tissue. During adolescence, the mammary glands develop and have
different sizes and structures according to personal characteristics. The skin is the sheath of the breast that grows after birth, weight gain and loss. The quality of the carrier connective tissue in the skin and breast deteriorates over time. Although the growing and expanding breast shrinks afterwards, this sheath and support tissue cannot take its old form and eventually begins to sag like an empty bag. The surgeries performed to regain the deteriorated breast form are called breast lifting surgeries. The support of your breast tissue is restored and the nipple is tried to be brought back to its original
place. However, this tidying up process may sometimes not be enough on its own. If the volume loss in the breast tissue is excessive, this loss volume should be replaced. For this purpose, a better result can be achieved by using breast implants during breast lift surgery.

There are various factors that cause sagging of the breast. Sagging that occurs in many parts of the human body due to the loss of elasticity of the skin with age also manifests itself in breast tissue. When hormonal changes, genetic inheritance, pregnancy, breastfeeding, the effect of gravity, weight gain and loss, and smoking are added to this situation, the size of the sagging increases. Breast lift surgeries are operations performed to reduce or eliminate these problems.

Breast examination must be done before the surgery. In dangerous situations or in people over 40 years old, breast should be evaluated by using ultrasonography and mammography and a decision should be made for the surgery. Quitting smoking before the surgery allows you to recover more quickly and smoothly. Aspirin and some other medicines, as well as some herbal medicines or herbal supplements may increase bleeding after surgery, so they should be stopped before the surgery.

After the examination, it is decided which technique is most suitable for the patient in breast lifting surgeries by evaluating the degree of sagging of the breast, tissue elasticity, loss of volume. The incisions to be made may be around the nipple, perpendicular incision down from the nipple or in the form of an inverted T letter, depending on the degree of deformation.

Breast lifting surgeries are performed under general anesthesia and the surgery takes an average of 3 hours. The patient is usually discharged on the same day after surgery or the day after surgery. Stitches are removed around 10-12 days. Patients can return to their daily activities and social life after a few days by wearing the recommended suitable bra.

In surgery, there may be incision marks of different sizes and in different places depending on the degree of sagging and the method of surgery. Pain may occur in arm movements, especially in the first few days after breast lifting surgeries. In this case, strong pain relievers are used to control the pain. Depending on your surgery method, there may be drains on both sides of your breasts. Your drains are withdrawn within the first few days. It takes 3-4 months for the breast to find its ideal shape.

You should avoid lifting or pushing anything heavy for 3-4 weeks.
You should limit your exercise for a few weeks.
You should use the bra recommended by your doctor regularly.

  • It should take 6 to 8 weeks for your wound areas to soften and your tissues to strengthen. During this period, you should avoid any intervention other than a light contact with your breasts.
  • If you have an expectation about breastfeeding, you will not have a physical obstacle to this, as your surgery will be performed by protecting the milk ducts.
